- The scheme involved the extension of the Kilkenny Ring Road linking the N10 to the east of the city with the N77 north of the city. The project involved the detailed design of a 4.2km long wide single carriageway with footways and cycleways on one side of the main alignment and lighting throughout the scheme. The scheme also incorporated four new roundabouts, with improvements to an additional existing roundabout, five bridges, including two bridges over the Dublin-Kilkenny Railway and the realignment of 1.3km of railway to accommodate the new road.
The services provided by Atkins included preliminary and detailed design of three of the five bridges and detailed design of the highways works, including landscaping. An Environmental Impact Study was prepared for the relocation of the Dublin to Kilkenny railway line to facilitate the construction of the Ring Road.
