- Atkins was appointed by the National Roads Authority (NRA) to provide support services under their EIRSPAN
Bridge Management Framework Contract.
Since being appointed Atkins have been responsible for carrying out inventory gathering and principal bridge
inspections of over 500 structures located throughout the country.
Some of the structures inspected include:
- Blackwater Bridge, Rice Bridge, Youghal Bridge and Tourig River Bridge in Co. Waterford
- All of the M8 motorway structures located within Co. Tipperary, Co. Limerick and Co. Kilkenny
- Bridges on the M50 between the N4 and N7 interchanges. These bridges were inspected at night with traffic management in place
- All bridges on the M9 Waterford to Knocktopher Scheme
- Liffey Bridge on the M4 in Co. Kildare and the Broadmeadows Bridge on the M1 in Co. Fingal
These bridges were inspected by our Principal Inspector using Confined Space Apparatus.
The forms of structure inspected are varied including brick, masonry and reinforced concrete arches,
prestressed and post tensioned concrete decks and steel composite decks. A number of precast
concrete box and corrugated steel pipe culverts have also been inspected.
