Atkins was appointed by Cork County Council, as the Employer’s Representative responsible for the preliminary design of a new relief road and in Kanturk Town linking the Regional Roads R580, R576, and R579 via a new bridge over the River Allow in Kanturk. Consultancy services required included the provision of route options and route selection, preparation of the preliminary design and associated reports, and the provision of assessments necessary to determine the feasibility of a relief road and bridge through the route corridor.
In order to provide the preliminary design for this proposed relief road, we undertook ecological, archaeological and geotechnical assessments to identify various constraints. These, in conjunction with traffic survey work and traffic analysis, were used to determine a relief road which best suits the local community and surrounding environment.
